kitchen-design-tips

This new series shares my design tips and tricks for every room of the house. After multiple compliments on the layout and feel of my home, I wanted to share with you simple and chic ways to update your own home. Enjoy!

The kitchen is by far my favorite room in the house. Cooking healthy meals, entertaining guests and even using it as a work space, my kitchen is the heart of my home. Even though I’m currently renting (and not renovating till I own) I still want to make each room of my humble abode as comfortable, functional and stylish as possible!

A Chic & Cozy Kitchen

My kitchen is the hub. On any given night you’ll find me either cooking my favorite healthy recipes, entertaining guests or working away at my computer. I’ve designed it specifically to be a place where people can come and relax, have great conversation over appetizers or simply relax on the adjoining room’s comfy couch.

A simple color palate with pops of bright artwork provides aesthetic balance. Both cheerful and clean, my aim was to create a space that invites guests to stay awhile yet is bright enough to keep me motivated when I work from home.

The greatest asset to any kitchen is a large island. Mine is perfect for not only appetizers and wine but also my laptop! I’ve even got a drawer dedicated to my business materials so I can work comfortably from downstairs without needing to constantly visit my office for miscellaneous papers. With two large, comfortable chairs it makes working and entertaining at the island so easy!

Instead of using the adjoining area as a dining room I turned it into a sitting area with a sofa, leather ottoman, the fuzziest blanket in the house and the largest TV. I wanted to utilize the fireplace and make it extra cozy, perfect for our latest winter storms! Guests can sip wine and relax while I cook or I can watch television while the laundry is spinning.

Kitchen Design Tips

You may not have space for a large island or be able to remove your dining room set but there are a few things you can do to spruce up one of the most important rooms in your house. Here are just a few ideas to get your kitchen looking chic while also being functional!

Avoid Clutter

To have a kitchen you can actually cook in – let alone entertain guests in – it’s best to keep it clutter-free. Every dish, utensil, bowl and glass must have a home (counter not included). Keeping the countertops clutter-free and clean creates a warm, inviting atmosphere for friends, family and yourself.

Keep It Airy and Light

There is something about a kitchen filled with sunshine that warms my heart. Don’t you agree? Clean, clutter-free, bright and light make kitchens a joy to hangout in. For me it’s all about creating space in the space – the kitchen is a great place to do this!

Set the Mood

A wonderful smelling candle and freshly cut flowers always make a room more inviting. No matter what room it is, these two personal touches create a sense of coziness that make you want to settle in.

Add A Dash of Green

Aside from fresh flowers I highly recommend a plant or two to add a little nature to the space. Ferns, simply vines, bamboo shoots…these are all great and affordable ways to bring plants into a space. Just remember to water them regularly!
