Tinder Dating: Do you ever wonder how you’re supposed to meet eligible men these days? I know I did! Before I share my Tinder dating tips with you, I want to start off by saying that you aren’t alone. For someone like me who’s been in serious relationships consistently over the years, it wasn’t until I found myself single and ready to mingle that I decided to take the Tinder plunge and not without trepidation. Getting back out there takes guts and I applaud all of you who are putting your hearts on the table in order to find lasting love.

In truth, I had no plans on joining another online dating site and assumed I would just need to wait for a great guy to cross paths with. I didn’t even knew Tinder existed until one day, while on a flight, I got to chatting with my very handsome seat-mate about finding time to date while traveling extensively. He showed me Tinder and to be honest, I wasn’t interested!

We all know how brutal online dating can be. My previous experiences with match.com left me virtually mortified about my prospects. Everything from wrong matches to email harassment had me offline faster than you can say, “Yeehaw!”

It wasn’t until my horrible experiences with match.com that had me feeling like there had to be something better out there that I decided to give the app a shot.

Tinder Dating: The Best Decision I Ever Made

No longer in my early 30s, I was convinced the pool of men to choose from would be small and inadequate. Boy was I wrong! I can happily say that the men I’ve met on Tinder were all pretty wonderful and in fact, I am now together with a fantastic man because of it!

I was almost ready to drag myself off Tinder after having a guy I really liked see me for a month and then ghost me (ghosting: a gutless way to end dating by completely disappearing). I was thinking it was time for a break but this great guy popped up on my feed and I thought maybe I should give him a shot. When we met for our first date, it was raining and we had driven in separate cars. When I parked, he came up to the car and held up an umbrella for me so I wouldn’t get wet. I just thought to myself “Wow, what a class act!” It only took about a week before we were both off Tinder and focusing on each other exclusively.

My Top Three Tinder Dating Tips

Below are given my top three Tinder dating tips:

Tinder Tip #1: Be clear about what you want

Often seen as a “hook-up” app by many, I found Tinder to be full of good looking, educated, and kind men. Weeding out my undesirables from the beginning was most important, as I knew that I wanted more than just a fling. Setting my intentions upfront got rid of those guys in it for the short-term and helped me find the guy that wanted more than just one night.

Tinder Tip #2: Enjoy the process

Dating is not always easy, whether that’s online or in-person. Know that it will take some time to find your prince charming and there may be a lot of frogs in the process. Being clear with your intentions (see the tip above) and focusing on what you desire will keep your spirits up when the going seems rough. I know it did for me!

Tinder Tip #3: Never, ever lie

Be honest about your age and your images. It’s not worth showing up to a date with someone you might really like if you aren’t being 100% honest upfront. I’ve had someone steal my photos and create a fake profile – can you imagine how awkward it would be for someone to show up to a completely different person? If you are in doubt, just think about how would you feel to be lied to. It’s never a good feeling – or a good way to start a relationship!
